Established in 1755 or perhaps 1840 Schule Neuland stands proudly before you. Its history is rich. It began at a different location Neuländer Elbdeich 206. This older Schule Neuland was replaced. In 1953 construction started on the current building. The Hamburg Hochbauamt designed it. The school opened its doors in 1955. That same year the city purchased Ursula Querner’s artwork Kinder mit Tieren. It’s a vibrant mural next to the main entrance. A true testament to Hamburg’s commitment to art in public spaces.
Since 1969 Schule Neuland has been a primary school only. A sports hall was added in 1972. Ofra pavilions joined the school grounds in 1973. Children from Bullenhausen and Over in Niedersachsen have attended Schule Neuland since 1972 or 1973. A state treaty between Hamburg and Niedersachsen made this cross-border schooling possible. Imagine the friendships forged across state lines!
From 2016 to 2017 a major addition was constructed. It houses a new cafeteria administration and stage. The new building blends seamlessly with the existing structures. It opened in July 2017. More recently in 2022 a new classroom building the Hamburger Klassenhaus style was completed. Schule Neuland continues to evolve. It meets the needs of the growing community it serves. This school is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where generations of children have learned and grown. It stands as a vibrant symbol of education community and the enduring spirit of Hamburg. The school’s future is bright. It’s rooted in a strong and dynamic past.
