Founded in 1889 as die Schule Langenhorn, the Schule Neubergerweg has quite a history. It moved in 1904 from Langenhorner Chaussee 623 to a new building. It was then known as Norderschule.
Let’s step back in time. The original buildings were torn down in 1965. The Schule Neubergerweg was rebuilt as a primary school. It stands on Neubergerweg today.
Hans M. Antz designed the first building section in 1950. Construction began in 1951. The school opened its doors in 1952. Antz headed the Hamburg Hochbauamt until 1953.
More buildings followed from 1956. Paul Seitz, head of the Hochbauamt from 1953, created these designs. The gym, called Seitzhalle, the Kreuzbau, the Fachtrakt, the Pausenhalle, and the Verwaltungsgebaude all are part of the school.
Look around and you may spot some art. The Hamburger Baubehorde acquired artworks. They installed them here as part of the “Kunst am Bau” program.
Karl August Ohrt’s sculpture, “Madchen mit Hund,” has been here since 1952. Find it in the garden. Otto Thamer’s two sgraffiti pieces adorn the eastern interior wall of the gym since 1957. Johannes Ufer’s three-part wall decoration brightens the staircase of the Kreuzbau since 1959. Dietmar Linke created four glass windows titled “Spiel der Farben.” They were installed in the music room now the Aula, in 1964-65.
Today, Schule Neubergerweg is a full-day school. About 350 students learn and grow here. The school has a spacious green campus. Two pre-school classes prepare children for first grade.
The school works closely with Kita Nordlichter. This partnership provides care before and after school. They also offer care during school vacations.
Schule Neubergerweg has over 25 years of experience integrating students. They believe children with diverse backgrounds and talents should learn together. The school promotes individual learning. They value cooperation among everyone involved.
