“Sixty years a neighborhood school,” someone whispers nearby. This is the Schule Goosacker. It has been part of the community for over 60 years. Many generations know and appreciate this school. It offers advantages to children right in their neighborhood.
Let’s step back to 1956. This is when the foundation was laid for the school buildings. By 1958, the Gymnasium Goosacker opened. Heinrich Amsinck and Karl Peper designed it. The second and third construction phases finished in 1959 and 1961. Records mention Volksschule Goosacker as early as 1954. An expansion was added in 1977.
The Schule Goosacker became an independent primary school after a school reform. This happened in 2010. From 2013 to 2015, the Stadtteilschule Goosacker moved to a new location. It was renamed Stadtteilschule Flottbek. Only the Grundschule Goosacker remained at Goosacker. The buildings were renovated. A 246 m² area was prepared for all-day care in 2014. The school is now a listed building. It features pavilion and row buildings. Covered walkways connect them.
Today, Schule Goosacker is an open all-day school. Around 400 students attend. The school bridges different areas. Students from Osdorf, Nienstedten, Iserbrook, Lurup, and Flottbek learn together.
The renovated building offers modern classrooms. There are also well-equipped rooms. These rooms support music, art, science, and math. The schoolyard provides varied play areas. Students of all ages can move and play as they wish.
The GBS at Grundschule Goosacker is located in Alt-Osdorf. It’s in a renovated, listed building. The grounds are spacious. They offer many options for exercise and recreation. The GBS cares for 364 children aged 5 to 10. Building strong relationships with the children is a priority. A dedicated team supports the children. They provide reliable guidance from grades 1 to 4.
The “Free-Flow-System” is a key focus. The “No.1 Person” is another. This system allows children to choose. After class, from 13:00 to 14:30, they decide when to eat. They choose how to play and do homework. Preschool children eat or play right after class. The “No.1 Person” helps them. This teacher stays in a known location. They help children sign in and out. They also help organize their afternoon.
The Schule Goosacker has worked with the Ballschule Hamburg for years. Dance and circus projects are also popular. The school involves children in choosing courses. This creates new collaborations like graffiti or comic courses. Since 2022, the school has partnered with the Musikschule Karin Klose.
Our Grundschule celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009. It was then part of the Grund-, Haupt- und Realschule Goosacker. We usually have four classes per grade. The team includes over 40 teachers. They have diverse qualifications. Some have experience teaching up to grade 10. Classrooms now have interactive C-Touch devices. All classes have laptops or tablets.
Several climbing frames are in the schoolyards. These let children have active breaks. The school focuses on math and science. It also offers music. There is music class and choir in grades 3 and 4. The Hamburger Konservatorium offers instrumental lessons. Schule Goosacker remains a vital part of Hamburg.
