Did you know the Schule Fabriciusstrasse wasn’t always called that? Its history stretches back to 1957. That year saw the laying of the foundation stone for a school initially named Schule Owiesenstrasse. Imagine the bustling activity the construction brought to this quiet corner of Bramfeld. This wasn’t just any school. The designs for its initial buildings came from the Hamburg Hochbauamt under the leadership of Paul Seitz. They represented a series of standardized designs. These designs reflected the architectural trends of the time.
The Schule Fabriciusstrasse as we know it today stands proudly on a 22000 square meter plot. It sits nestled between Fabriciusstrasse and Bramfelder Chaussee with Owiesenstrasse to its north. The school’s official address is Fabriciusstrasse 150. But the name Schule Owiesenstrasse was short-lived. In 1960 a name change occurred. The school officially became the Schule Fabriciusstrasse.
Over the years the school underwent significant expansions. The 1960s saw the addition of an auditorium and a gymnasium. The gymnasium now known as the Seitzhalle remains a landmark. These additions catered to the growing student population. It reflects the community’s investment in education.
The school’s journey took a turn in 2005. It merged with another school. The result was the Schule An der Seebek. This combined both the Grund Haupt and Realschule Fabriciusstrasse and the Grund Haupt and Realschule Heinrich-Helbing-Strasse. The merging also led to the closure of the Grundschule Langenfort. In 2010 under Hamburg’s school reform. The Schule An der Seebek became a purely primary school.
Further renovations happened between 2011 and 2014. A 300 square meter break hall was renovated to allow for full-day care. The gymnasium underwent major repairs. Then in 2021 a new building a Hamburg Klassenhaus was added. This new building has eight classrooms. The school also regained its independence as a primary school. Today the Schule Fabriciusstrasse continues its legacy. It is a vital part of the Bramfeld community. It provides education to countless children. Its story is one of adaptation growth and unwavering dedication to learning.
