Each year, SCHUBZ welcomes around 13,000 children. These children and teens come from various places. They come from KITA, schools, and even families. SCHUBZ offers about 50 different project options. These are delivered through 650 pedagogically supervised events. This data reflects figures from 2019.

SCHUBZ has an international reach. In 2015, it launched a project in Romania. This established a branch in Rasnov. Since then, SCHUBZ Romania staff have worked at the new center. SCHUBZ aims to boost interest in nature. It hopes to promote sustainable living.

The thematic focus is broad. It encompasses energy and globalization. Intercultural learning and climate are central. Sustainable consumption and production are key. Ecosystems and biodiversity are considered. Reducing global inequalities is also a focus. SCHUBZ was awarded for its UN decade BNE projects. It excels in transforming learning environments. SCHUBZ began in 1989. It started as a school biology center. Rolf Harald Krause founded it. It was in the Grundschule on Kreideberg in Lüneburg. The goal was to offer programs for school classes. The city and district of Lüneburg financially supported it. In 1991, a support association formed. It acquired additional funds. In 1996, the center moved to a Leuphana University building. It became the Schulbiologie und Umweltbildungszentrum. About 5,000 to 6,000 students participated then. Since 2014, it has been located in the former Anna-Vogeley-Heim. In 2016, SCHUBZ took over the Wildgehege in Ochtmissen. They created the Arche-Park there. In 2018, the center had 796 sustainable development projects. These involved over 14,725 children and teens.

Today Frank Corleis leads SCHUBZ. The center has teachers. They support pedagogical work. About 35 staff, interns and volunteers contribute. They complete a voluntary ecological year. SCHUBZ promotes sustainable development. It is an example of environmental education. It shapes a better tomorrow.
