Schöneck sits 9 km northwest of Hanau. It also lies 15 km northeast of Frankfurt. As of 2022, Schöneck had 12,221 inhabitants.

The municipality of Schöneck was formed in 1970. This happened through a voluntary merger. Buedesheim, Kilianstaedten and Oberdorfelden joined together. Buedesheim previously belonged to the Friedberg district.

Schöneck has three districts. These are Büdesheim, Kilianstädten and Oberdorfelden. The Nidder river flows through all three. In Büdesheim, the Erlenbach flows into the Nidder.

Did you know that Schöneck is twinned with other communities? It also has a special partnership. Since 1988, Schöneck has sponsored Sudeten Germans. They were expelled from Dittersdorf an der Feistritz in the Bärn district now in the Czech Republic.

Schöneck offers a variety of sports. These include table tennis, football and judo. Several clubs are active here. These are TTC Schöneck e.V. and Sportverein Oberdorfelden e.V.

Public transport is excellent here. All three districts have train connections. You can travel to Bad Vilbel or Frankfurt. You can also go towards Stockheim in the opposite direction.

In 2009, Schöneck began building a wind farm. It has seven wind turbines. In 2013, they added two more.

Schöneck is home to notable people. Johannes Meffert was born here in 1732. He emigrated to the United States. He changed his name to Mefford. Children’s entertainer Fred Rogers and actor Tom Hanks are his descendants.

Schöneck has several buildings of interest. These include the Old and New Castles in Büdesheim. Also, don’t miss the historic bakehouse in Oberdorfelden.

Schöneck has regular events. The Büdesheim Lantern Festival takes place on the first weekend in August. Oberdorfelden hosts a street festival and bakehouse festival. There is also a vintage tractor show.

The mayor of Schöneck is Carina Wacker. She assumed office on July 15, 2024.

Schöneck’s coat of arms features symbols. It has a red tip with a golden horseshoe. It also shows a black eagle head and a red lily.
