On the fertile slopes of the Tuniberg, Schloss Reinach stands as a testament to time. This isn’t just a picturesque hotel and restaurant. It’s a place where centuries of history intertwine, whispering stories of noble families and resilient rebirth. Schloss Reinach first appeared in records in the 17th century. It began as a modest estate, built beside a moated castle ravaged by the Thirty Years’ War. Only a solitary round tower remains of that older fortress, a silent sentinel watching over the newer Schloss Reinach. The occasion for Schloss Reinach’s documented debut was a wedding, the union of Hans Adam von Pforr and Maria Cleopha von Reinach. Maria Cleopha, a woman of significant influence, left her mark on Munzingen. She donated the baptismal font to St. Stephanskirche in 1626, a tangible symbol of the Reinach presence. Look closely at the font, you’ll see the intertwined family crests, the von Pforrs and von Reinachs, forever linked in stone alongside the year 1626. After a second marriage, Maria Cleopha bequeathed her entire fortune to her nephew, Beat Melchior von Reinach, securing the family’s legacy. Around 1750, under circumstances shrouded in mystery, Schloss Reinach passed into the hands of the von Kageneck family. Their 250-year tenure shaped the estate, leaving an architectural imprint visible even today. Schloss Reinach thrived as a bustling agricultural hub. Then, disaster struck in 1870. A devastating fire swept through the estate, leaving it in ruins. Rebuilding was essential, a phoenix rising from the ashes. The estate remained a vital agricultural center, one of the largest in the region, until 1969. A new chapter began in 1991 with a complete restoration. Schloss Reinach was reborn in 1993, not as a farm, but as a hotel, restaurant, and conference center. Financial troubles plagued the early years, but the resilient Schloss Reinach persevered. In 2007, renowned restaurateurs René and Beatrix Gessler took the reins, ushering in an era of modernization and expansion. Today, Schloss Reinach welcomes guests from around the world, golfers seeking a luxurious retreat, and culture enthusiasts drawn to its vibrant events. Multiple restaurants offer culinary delights. The Herrehus Restaurant, once crowned with a Michelin star, continues to tantalize taste buds with its evolving culinary vision. Schloss Reinach is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a living story, echoing with the laughter of wedding celebrations, the quiet conversations of business meetings, and the clinking glasses of those enjoying a well-deserved escape. So, as you stand before Schloss Reinach, remember, you’re not just looking at a building. You’re experiencing a vibrant tapestry woven from centuries of history, resilience, and a touch of Reinach magic.
