The Sports Development Centre oversees Sayyidina Hamzah Male Sport Complex. Established in 1983 the sports section has grown. By 1990, sports activities in IIUM increased significantly. In 1991, IIUM became involved with international sports federations.

SDC focuses on blending learning and coordinating sports. They also monitor sports development and maintain venues. This complex is one of two for the IIUM community. The other one is for the female community. You can find both on the northern side of the campus.

IIUM also has sports facilities at other campuses. These are in Kuantan, Gambang, and Petaling Jaya. All facilities are available to students, staff, and visitors. Bookings can be made through the SDC office for a small fee.

The SDC celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2021. To mark this event, they beautified IIUM sports venues. The Saiyiddina Hamzah Stadium got a mural. This project supported the Sejahtera Academic Framework. The mural reflects IIUM’s journey toward sustainability. It shows the university’s missions and strategic initiatives.

Students and the IIUM community primarily use the sports complexes. The Deputy Rector of Student Affairs decides on access. Outside users can reserve the facilities at other times. All users must follow the rules. The Sports and Recreational Centre sets these rules.
