Do you hear the call to prayer echoing through the neighborhood? That sound originates from the Hurma Merkez Camii. It’s a place that holds a special place in the hearts of the locals. The Hurma Merkez Camii has been a cornerstone of this community since its construction in 1963. This mosque isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a living testament to the faith and resilience of the people here. Over the years, the Hurma Merkez Camii faced the challenge of limited space. In 2015, the Konyaaltı Municipality stepped in with a brilliant solution. They relocated the nearby Hurma Mahallesi Muhtarlığı (neighborhood administrative office) to a newly built modern building. This allowed them to repurpose the old office space and expand the Hurma Merkez Camii. The mosque gained an additional 80 square meters of space. They also installed a 60 square meter wooden shade structure in the courtyard. This provides shelter from the sun and rain. The municipality also took the opportunity to renovate the şadırvan (ablution fountain) and the landscaping around the mosque. These careful renovations have made the Hurma Merkez Camii an even more inviting space for worship and community gathering.
