“Ever pictured yourself on Malaysia’s Number 1 Golf Club?” Saujana Golf and Country Club beckons. It offers an experience of golfing excellence. Founded in 1984, Saujana Golf and Country Club boasts two championship courses. The Palm Course and the Bunga Raya Course were designed by Ronald Fream Design Group.

The courses sprawl over 400 acres. This land was once a well-kept oil palm estate. Great care has been taken to preserve the flora and fauna. The club has a 300-yard driving range. There is also a Short Game Practice Complex. It allows for bunker practice. It also allows short game practice of up to 80 yards.

The Palm Course is nicknamed “The Cobra”. It has a challenging layout. Playing 6,992 yards from the back tees it earned its reputation. It became the venue of the Malaysian Open. It later became a co-sanctioned event of the Asian Tour and the European Tour. The fairways are Bermuda-turfed. The greens are Tifteagle. The 172-yard Par-3 second hole is the signature hole. It has been rated “Most Difficult Hole” in Malaysia.

The Bunga Raya Course is named after Malaysia’s national flower. This course has been nicknamed “The Crocodile” by Mr. Lee Westwood. The landscape is beautiful and rolling. Several water catchment ponds bring a different challenge. It plays 7,034 yards from the back tees. The course has open Bermuda fairways and Miniverde Greens. The Par-3 17-hole plays over an expanse of water and is its signature hole.

Saujana Golf and Country Club has hosted many major tournaments. These include nine Malaysian Opens and three Maybank Championships. It has also hosted three Final Qualifying Asia for The Open Championship. In 2002, it hosted the World Amateur Golf Team Championship. It comprised the Eisenhower Trophy and the Espirito Santo Trophy.

Top professionals like Major winner Vijay Singh have won on the Palm Course. Many international accolades have been bestowed upon Saujana Golf and Country Club. These include “Best Golf Course” and “Best Clubhouse Facilities”. In 1999, Golf Digest Magazine USA named it the Number 1 Golf Club in Malaysia. The Palm Course was named Best Championship Course in Asia by Asian Golf Monthly in 2005.

The Bunga Raya Course was ranked number 69 of the Top 100 Best Courses outside the USA by Golf Digest in 2005. CNNGo.com ranked the Palm Course as the World’s 6th Toughest Golf Course in 2012. It was also named Best Private Members’ Club in Malaysia by Golf Malaysia in 2011 and 2012.
