While the church boasts beautiful stained glass windows, the most striking feature of the Santuario Padre Monti is the wooden crucifix and the statue of Blessed Luigi Maria Monti, both crafted by the artist G. Conta. The stained glass, a work by C. Rapp, captures the essence of Blessed Luigi’s life and work, depicting scenes of charity and the Congregation’s missionary work around the world.
But the heart of the Santuario lies in the crypt. Here, within a large bulb of burlwood sits the tombstone and the altar, both fashioned from golden sandstone. Inscribed upon the stone is the simple yet poignant message: ‘Beato Luigi Maria Monti – Fondatore – Bovisio 24 luglio 1825 – Saronno 1 ottobre 1900.’ His life was one of humble service and deep faith.
