Do you hear the quiet hum of prayer? We stand before Santa Eduviges a church named for a remarkable woman. Santa Eduviges herself a Silesian duchess lived a life of unwavering faith and extraordinary charity.

Born in 1174 in Bavaria her family held immense influence. She married Henry I the Bearded inheriting the title of Duchess of Silesia. Together they championed Christian development. They founded the Cistercian convent of Trzebnica a significant center of spirituality. This convent became a cornerstone of their legacy.

After Henry’s death Eduviges dedicated herself to serving the poor. She was known for her humility and compassion. Legend says she walked barefoot even in winter. She carried spare shoes only to appease others. She would then place them back into her satchel demonstrating her dedication to a life of poverty.

Eduviges tirelessly supported the church. She established hospitals and shelters for the needy. She even paid debts freeing prisoners unable to afford their release. Her acts of charity were unparalleled. She demonstrated a profound commitment to those in need.

Her son Henry II the Pious died in 1241 at the Battle of Liegnitz. Despite this devastating loss Eduviges continued her service. She and her daughter-in-law founded a Benedictine abbey near the battlefield. They remembered the fallen and offered solace to the grieving.

Eduviges died in 1243 at Trzebnica. She was canonized in 1267. She became the patron saint of Silesia Berlin and orphans. Even today she is revered for her devotion and selfless acts. She represents humility and compassion.
