Sankta Maria i Rosengård

The Sankta Maria i Rosengård church stands before you. It is a testament to a community’s journey and its enduring faith. Built in 1990 on Ramels väg 149, it is a place of solace and prayer for the residents of Rosengård in Malmö. Back in 1966, the Oblate Fathers arrived in Malmö. In 1975, they established a chapel in a small villa on Ekgatan 35. However as the community grew, the chapel became too small and they purchased a bigger house across the street. The first floor of this house was transformed into a chapel and was called Mariakapellet. This was the first step towards a larger, more permanent space dedicated to faith. The groundbreaking ceremony for the current church took place in the winter of 1988. The church was built with a simple plan, it is a modern symbol of the community’s faith. A unique detail is the church’s stained glass, made by Polish artist Malopsza. When the sun shines through them, the church is awash in an array of colored light that brings a touch of magic to the space. The church reflects the community and its identity. The Sankta Maria i Rosengård is a place of connection between the past and the present, a place of spiritual refuge and support for the people of Rosengård.
