Sanggye-Jeil Middle School first opened its doors in 1971. It was initially established as Sanggye Girls’ Middle School. The school admitted only female students back then. In 2001, Sanggye-Jeil Middle School became coeducational. This change allowed both boys and girls to learn together.

The school’s history reflects growth and adaptation. In 1970, Chun Deok-gi took office as the inaugural principal. This marked the beginning of the school’s journey. Over the years, Sanggye-Jeil Middle School has adapted to the evolving needs of its students.

In 2010, a new building was completed. This modern facility provides students with an enhanced learning environment. The project was managed using a build-transfer-lease approach.

As of 2023, Sanggye-Jeil Middle School has 495 students. The faculty consists of 74 dedicated staff members. The school continues to provide quality education to the community. Lee Jeong-hwan assumed the role of the 18th principal in September 2022. His leadership guides the school forward.

Sanggye-Jeil Middle School celebrated its 50th graduation ceremony in January 2023. A total of 190 students graduated. Ninety-two were boys and 98 were girls. In March 2023, the school welcomed 160 new students. Ninety of them were boys and 70 were girls.

The school’s symbols reflect its values. The school tree is the ginkgo. The school flower is the rose. These symbols represent resilience and beauty. They embody the spirit of Sanggye-Jeil Middle School.
