This isn’t the building you see now. Sandford Parish 1837 was originally a much humbler establishment. It was constructed in 1826, thanks to the generosity of George Sandford. Imagine the children, boys and girls, their laughter echoing in these very streets as they scurried to their lessons. In 1835, Sandford Parish 1837 wasn’t just one school, but three! There was one for boys, another for girls, and even an infant school. Over 100 young minds were nurtured within those walls. The Coombe family, dedicated educators, guided their young charges. These children came from various backgrounds, some paying a nominal fee, others relying on the church and Sandford’s endowment for their education. This parish, this school, played a vital role in shaping young lives in 1837.
