A sacred hush blankets the Sanatan Dharam Mandir. It beckons us to explore its rich history. This temple, nestled in Lajpat Nagar-III, New Delhi, isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the resilience and devotion of a community. The Sanatan Dharam Mandir’s story begins in the aftermath of India’s partition in 1947. Refugees from Punjab, Sind, and NWF sought solace and community. They established the Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha in a humble hut in Lajpat Nagar-I. The Sabha, registered in 1950-51, laid the foundation for the temple we see today. The Sanatan Dharam Mandir’s journey from a hut to a grand structure is remarkable. It involved land exchanges, fundraising through religious events, and the tireless efforts of dedicated individuals. The construction of the main Aarti hall began in 1958. Its design was inspired by the Birla Mandir in New Delhi. The idols of Bhagwan Shree Laxmi Narain Ji were installed in 1961. Over time, other deities found their home within the temple’s walls. These include Bhagwan Shree Shiv Shanker Ji, Bhagawati Mata Vaishnu Devi Ji, and Sankat Mochan Shree Hanuman Ji. The Sanatan Dharam Mandir also houses a Sat Sang Hall, the Iqbal Devi Hall, with an image of Bhagwan Shri Krishna Ji. The temple complex expanded further to include a Baraat Ghar, a charitable dispensary, and additional rooms for the temple priest. A Shivalya with a gold-coated Kalash and a grand entrance gate further enhance its beauty. The Sanatan Dharam Mandir stands as a symbol of hope, faith, and community spirit. It reminds us of the power of collective effort and the enduring strength of religious belief.
