“Lost in Ciudad Lineal?” a voice echoes. San Pascual is a ward of Madrid. It is part of the Ciudad Lineal district. This northeast area of the city holds more than meets the eye.

San Pascual’s story dates back to the late 19th century. The area was once defined by the Canaleja stream. It was also marked by the Arroyo Abroñigal. These waterways shaped the landscape. They created challenges for later construction.

Until 1949, San Pascual belonged to Canillas. After Canillas joined Madrid, San Pascual developed rapidly. Most buildings arose to house the working class. This boom occurred in the 1960s. Later, areas like La Bomba and Barrio Blanco were redeveloped. The Avenida de América Sur became a business park. Today, Barrio Blanco has only offices not homes.

Look around. The M-30 ring road and the A-2 highway border San Pascual. Alcalá and Arturo Soria streets are also nearby. This makes San Pascual very accessible. Getting here is easy from anywhere in Madrid.

The Metro de Madrid serves San Pascual. The San Pascual station is on Line 7. You can enter from Martínez Villergas Street and Virgen del Val Street. Several bus lines also run through the ward. Lines 11, 21, 53, 70, and 122 connect San Pascual. Line 114 also provides partial service.

Notice the Islamic Cultural Center of Madrid. You can also find a Novotel hotel here. The M-30 funeral home is another landmark.

Let us talk about local commerce. The San Pascual Market on Virgen del Val Street was vital. In the 1970s, it was one of Madrid’s largest markets. It offered a wide range of products. People came from all over to shop here. Today, it still operates. It provides the same services as always.

For healthcare, there is a primary care clinic on Verdaguer y García Street. Community is important here. The San Pascual neighborhood association is over 30 years old. It is located on Verdaguer y García Street. The association offers meeting rooms for residents. It serves as a gathering place for the neighborhood.

San Pascual’s celebrations once centered around June 24. This was “La noche de San Juan”. There was a big bonfire and fireworks.

Did you know that San Pascual appears in literature? Alfonso Sastre’s play “La taberna fantástica” is set here. He found inspiration in the La Serrata tavern.

As we conclude our walk, remember San Pascual. It is a district shaped by water, workers, and community. Its history lives in its streets.
