The San Diego Jewish Academy opened its doors in 1979 as a small community school, nestled within the grounds of Congregation Tifereth Israel. Fast forward to 1999. The San Diego Jewish Academy embarked on a significant chapter, building a sprawling 40-acre campus in Carmel Valley. This campus, now known as the Jaffe Campus, stands as a testament to the academy’s growth and the generosity of the Jaffe family, who donated a remarkable $7 million. By 2013, the campus expanded further, reaching an impressive 56 acres. The San Diego Jewish Academy isn’t tied to a single branch of Judaism. It embraces a pluralistic approach. It fosters an inclusive environment where students from diverse Jewish backgrounds can learn and grow together. This pluralistic spirit is reflected in the school’s “compacts” with various synagogues throughout San Diego.
Did you know the San Diego Jewish Academy made history in 2009? They fielded the first-ever Jewish high school football team in the United States. These Lions, a group of eleven determined players, carved their place in the league. They even made an appearance in the CIF playoffs. The Lions continued to roar, reaching the CIF championship finals in 2018 and securing their first league championship in 2019. Their winning streak continued, culminating in an undefeated season and both league and CIF division championships in 2021. The San Diego Jewish Academy fosters a vibrant community that extends beyond the classroom. The Early Childhood Center provides a nurturing environment for the youngest learners. The Golda Meir Lower School, for grades K-5, and the Maimonides Upper School, for grades 6-12, offer a comprehensive academic program. The academy also hosts Camp Carmel Creek, a summer camp open to the entire community.

Alumni like Ari Seth Cohen, photographer and fashion blogger, and Jacob Frank, Director of Collectively Bargained Programs at the NFL, are making their mark in diverse fields.
