“Why is this church called San Diego Chinese Mandarin Church?” I often get asked. San Diego Chinese Mandarin Church is more than just a place of worship. It is a testament to faith, community, and perseverance.
San Diego Chinese Mandarin Church began humbly. It started as a Bible study group in the early 1970s. It was the earliest Mandarin speaking church in the San Diego area. In 1971, the church borrowed space from an American church. By 1974, the congregation purchased its current site.
Later, several members branched off to establish other Chinese churches locally. The original building aged. It became too difficult to maintain. Through the grace of God, the old church was demolished in 2012. A new building was completed in 2013.
