San Damiano College first opened its doors to eager seventh graders in February 2021. The construction, completed just the year before, marked a new chapter in the educational landscape of Logan City, Queensland. Brisbane Catholic Education administers the school, ensuring a strong foundation in Catholic values. The campus itself is designed as a village. One and two-story buildings create intimate laneways and inviting piazzas. This fosters a human-scale environment, perfect for learning and community building. At the heart of San Damiano College lies the church. Pathways radiate outwards, creating visual connections to the surrounding community. This design symbolizes the college’s role as a hub for both faith and learning. The architecture incorporates earthy materials like terracotta roof tiles, bricks, and ceramic tiles. These choices not only create a warm and familiar atmosphere but also pay homage to the architectural heritage of St. Francis of Assisi. The landscape is not just a backdrop but an integral part of the San Damiano experience. It serves as a living classroom, a playground, and a place for quiet reflection. A natural stormwater catchment system has been ingeniously transformed into a small wetland. This not only enhances the beauty of the campus but also provides a valuable ecological resource. San Damiano College’s commitment to education extends beyond the traditional classroom. The recently completed Stage 1 construction includes administration buildings, general learning areas, and a sports centre. These spaces have been designed for flexibility and adaptability, serving temporary functions until specialist spaces are completed in future stages.
