The Garden’s history is fascinating. The land itself was a former limestone quarry and waterworks area. Can you imagine? A bustling industrial site transformed into a serene escape? The transformation began in 1970 when voters approved bonds funding the project. Ground was broken in 1976.
The Lucile Halsell Conservatory is a stunning architectural achievement. Designed by Emilio Ambasz this subterranean structure is a masterpiece. It houses plants from around the world.
