Samih Darwazah founded Hikma in Amman in 1978. His dream was simple yet profound: provide affordable, high-quality medicines globally. From a small factory in Amman, Hikma blossomed under Samih’s guidance. His children joined him, and together they transformed it into a major pharmaceutical supplier across the Middle East and North Africa. Samih Darwazah didn’t stop there. Hikma expanded its reach into Europe and the United States. Today, it operates in roughly 50 countries, offering a wide array of medications. Samih Darwazah’s impact extended beyond Hikma. He served Jordan as Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and as a senator. He championed education, particularly for girls, even founding a school in Al Shoubak. Samih Darwazah also believed in giving back to the community. His commitment to corporate responsibility was unwavering. The Samih artwork encapsulates his spirit: a blend of business acumen, social responsibility, and deep love for family. He saw his family as the bedrock of his success, a value that still resonates within Hikma. In 2007, Ernst and Young recognized Samih Darwazah as Middle East Entrepreneur of the Year. He also received five honorary doctorates. These accolades reflect his remarkable contributions.
