Did you know that the Engineering Physics Institute at Samarkand State University has roots stretching back to 1927? It started as the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. Today we are standing in front of the Samarkand State University Institute of Engineering Physics. It is a place where history and innovation meet.

The institute’s story began with luminaries like Professor A.M. Titov, who arrived from Russia in 1933. He helped establish the very first physics departments here. In 1933 the chair “General Physics” was created. In 1935 the chair “Optics and theoretical physics” followed.

Under Professor Titov’s guidance, groundbreaking research into solar energy began. This was in 1933. By 1935, the first candidate dissertations were defended.

Muso Muminov played a crucial role. He was appointed Rector of Uzbek State University in 1944. He also headed the Theoretical Physics chair. Muminov co-created the first Uzbek language lab textbook on Molecular Physics in 1951.

In 1961, the Faculty of Physics became independent. This marked a new phase of progress. A.K. Otakhodjaev, head of the “Optics” chair, founded the School of Optics at Samarkand State University.

Six scientific schools emerged. These included Optics, Nuclear Physics, Magnetism, Space Physics and Astrophysics, Nonlinear Optics, and Molecular Luminescence. Each was founded by a leading professor.

In 2022, the Engineering Physics Institute was officially established. This was according to a presidential decree. The institute now has six departments. These cover everything from Solid State Physics to Quantum Electronics.

Today, the institute offers training in new areas. These include Electronics and Instrumentation and Intelligent Engineering Systems. You can also study Manufacturing Technology for Electronic Equipment here. Furthermore, Engineering Technology, Medical Physics, and Mechanics are taught.

More than 1,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs. Over 50 are in master’s programs. The teaching staff includes over 70 employees. Among them are an academician, doctors of science, professors, and associate professors. Ten professors from foreign universities also contribute.

The current director of the Engineering Physics Institute is Absanov Akhmad Abdusattarovich. He can be reached by phone or email. His office is open every day for visitors.

The Samarkand State University Institute of Engineering Physics continues to evolve. It honors its rich past while embracing the future of science and technology. Its contributions to Uzbekistan and the world are immense. The institute remains a beacon of knowledge and innovation.
