Across the bustling Klang River, the Saloma Link stretches like a vibrant ribbon, connecting two worlds. The Saloma Link isn’t just a bridge. It’s a symbol of unity, inspired by the “sirih junjung,” a betel nut leaf arrangement traditionally presented at Malay weddings. This pedestrian and bicycle bridge, opened in February 2020, spans 69 meters, joining the historic Kampung Baru district with the modern Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Imagine strolling along the Saloma Link, seven meters above the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway. The bridge’s design, a masterpiece by VERITAS Design Group, features 4,100 diamond-shaped panels. At night, these panels come alive with LED lights, transforming the Saloma Link into a dazzling spectacle of color and patterns. The bridge’s name honors the iconic Malaysian-Singaporean singer, Saloma, whose grave lies nearby in the Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery. This proximity adds another layer of significance to the Saloma Link. It’s a place where past and present intertwine, where history and modernity converge. The Saloma Link isn’t just a convenient passage. It’s a journey through time, a celebration of culture, and a testament to the enduring spirit of Kuala Lumpur. The vibrant lights of the Saloma Link reflect the city’s own dynamism, beckoning visitors to explore its diverse neighborhoods and discover the stories they hold.
