Established in 1824 Salem Baptist Church started in Alabama. A group of settlers from North Carolina and Virginia founded it. They built a small log meeting house. Services began in February 1827. Salem Baptist Church thrived despite hardships. Sadly the original church burned down. Undeterred the congregation built a new church in 1854. This was a white-sided building with a steeple and bell. The church played a role in the Civil War. Members prayed for soldiers. They observed a day of fasting and prayer in 1863. Salem Baptist Church continued to grow. A new brick building was constructed in 1953. This is the church you see today. A fellowship hall was added in 2011. The church underwent renovations in 2023. Salem Baptist Church has a rich history.
