Born in 1580, Vincent de Paul’s journey began humbly in the French countryside. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. While traveling by sea, his ship was ambushed by Barbary pirates. Forced into slavery for two grueling years, Vincent eventually made a daring escape, returning to France in 1607. This brush with danger ignited a passion for helping those in need. Saint Vincent de Paul dedicated his life to serving the poor, founding the Congregation of the Missions and, alongside Saint Louise de Marillac, the Sisters of Charity. These organizations, dedicated to alleviating suffering and spreading kindness, echo through the very foundation of Saint Vincent de Paul Church.
