In 1954, Saint Viator Catholic Church began its journey. It’s a fascinating story of faith, growth, and community. The church’s story intertwines with the Clerics of St. Viator, a religious order dedicated to education. Saint Viator Catholic Church started modestly with masses in parishioners’ homes. The first public mass took place in a bank on Charleston and Maryland Parkway. The church eventually found a temporary home in the Carpenters’ Hall on East Charleston. The first church building, constructed at St. Louis and Eastern, unfortunately had to be razed due to unsuitable terrain. Undeterred, the parish persevered. They set up in a vacant store on Charleston Boulevard. In 1963, Saint Viator acquired 15 acres near Flamingo and Eastern. This land became the site of a new multi-purpose hall, classrooms, and a rectory. The church continued to expand. By the 1970s, the need for a dedicated church building became clear. Fundraising began, and in 1977, construction started. The new church opened its doors in November 1977. Saint Viator Catholic Church’s story is one of resilience and growth. The church’s dedication to its community has made it a cornerstone of Las Vegas. The church continues to serve as a testament to the power of faith. It stands as a beacon of hope and community in the vibrant city of Las Vegas.
