Saint Vladimir Orthodox Church’s story began around 1920. The first Ukrainians migrated from Eastern America to California. Several dozen families formed the Ukrainian Center. This association aimed to build a Ukrainian National Home. They hoped to invite a Ukrainian priest to lead them.

The parish’s rules mirrored those adopted in Ukraine. This happened during the revival of the Avtokifalnoy Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In July 1949 construction started on the church auditorium. Mr. Martin and Basil Timchuk oversaw the work. Mr. V. and Mr. M. Mikhno also contributed their skills.

The parish held its first service in the new house on February 26, 1950. By February 7, 1954, a dedicated church fund was established. This fund grew to $40,000 by 1961. Construction of the cathedral began soon after.

The opening and dedication of Saint Vladimir Orthodox Church took place on Green Day, June 17, 1962. Today the cathedral stands as a testament to Ukrainian heritage. Its architecture reflects national traits. It also reflects traditions of the Ukrainian church.

Father Vasile Sauciur has served as pastor since 2003. He completed theological studies in Romania and Ukraine. Father Vasile is fluent in English, Ukrainian, Romanian and Russian. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Michael, who was also a priest.

The Saint Vladimir Orthodox Church holds Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 10:00 am. Services are conducted in both Ukrainian and English. This ensures everyone can participate in the worship.

The Pro-Cathedral of Saint Vladimir is part of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. It falls under the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States of America. It belongs to the Western Eparchy. The church celebrates its feast day on July 28. This day honors St. Vladimir the Great.
