Why were two seemingly ordinary men chosen to become saints? Here at Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church, that question hangs in the air. The church, nestled in The Woodlands, Texas, isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of faith and the legacy of two unassuming apostles. Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church began its journey in 1979. Bishop Fiorenza tasked Reverend Monsignor Charles C. Domec with establishing a Catholic community in The Woodlands. The first Mass was held in October 1979. Before their own building, they met at Interfaith of The Woodlands and Knox Junior High School. The church, located at 26777 Glen Loch Drive, opened its doors in 1981. The church’s name itself has a story. Reverend Domec preferred St. Jude. Regional diocese chancellor Rev. Joseph Fiorenza favored St. Simon. The combined name represents a compromise, a fitting symbol of community and collaboration. Both Simon and Jude were ordinary men who found extraordinary purpose. Simon, known as “the Zealot,” initially focused on strict adherence to Jewish law. His encounter with Jesus transformed his zeal into a peaceful devotion. Jude, also known as Thaddeus, became the patron saint of hopeless cases. He reminds us that even in the darkest times, faith can offer solace. They traveled, taught and ultimately died for their beliefs. The legacy of these two men continues to inspire the community at Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church. They embody the idea that anyone can become a saint through faith and service. Saint Simon and Jude Catholic Church, celebrating over 40 years in The Woodlands, continues to welcome new disciples and spread the Good News.
