Is that a panther I see? It’s only fitting here at Saint Pius X High School. This Dominican, Catholic co-educational secondary school, affectionately known as St. Pius or SPX, has been a Houston institution since 1956. Founded by the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Saint Pius X High School was named for Pope Pius X, who was canonized just two years prior. His influence is felt all over the school, from the yearbook named Del Sarto after his family name to the school’s mascot, Beppo the Panther, which was the pope’s nickname. Students in grades 9 through 12 walk these halls, guided by the school’s motto “Veritas”, meaning “Truth.” And for any sports fans out there, you might recognize the name Gary Kubiak! This former NFL quarterback and coach, a Saint Pius X High School alumnus, led the Panthers to three consecutive state championships. The school even named their football stadium after him. So, as you can see, Saint Pius X High School isn’t just about education; it’s about faith, community, and a little bit of panther pride!
