It’s a beautiful day here at Saint Philip’s College – Southwest Campus, isn’t it? Did you know that this place was once a hub for technical training programs? It all started in 1987 when Saint Philip’s College, one of the oldest colleges in the country, decided to expand. They found the perfect location for their new campus on Quintana Road. This location had a great history as part of Kelly Air Force Base, and it perfectly fit their vision for technical education and industrial training. You see, Saint Philip’s College is the only college in the United States to be federally designated as both a historically black college and a Hispanic-serving institution. The Southwest Campus quickly became a major facility and today offers a variety of technical programs. Some of these programs, like Aviation Science and Aircraft Turbine Engine Theory, even expose students to the exciting world of aerospace. So when you think about this campus, think about the legacy of Kelly Air Force Base and how it’s been transformed into a place for students to learn vital skills for their careers.
