Founded in 1989 the Saint Peter and Saint Paul Coptic Orthodox Church stands as a testament to faith and community. It began humbly. Services were held in a Santa Monica school hall. A dedicated group envisioned a permanent home for their growing congregation. Their dream materialized in 1993. They purchased a church building. This building in Santa Monica near the beach became their sanctuary.

The Saint Peter and Saint Paul Coptic Orthodox Church wasn’t just built it was nurtured. Bishop Dioscorus Father Tadros Malaty and Father Saleeb Sourial guided its early years. Their leadership laid the foundation for the church’s growth and spiritual strength. Father Paul Megally arrived in 1993. He became a cornerstone of the parish. He shepherded the flock. He contributed significantly to its flourishing. Father Youhanna Youssef joined in 2004. He served until moving to Palmdale in 2004. Father Mina Ghebrial’s ordination in 2007 added to the church’s spiritual leadership. Archdeacon Michael Ishak also served the community. He started his service in 2001.

The church quickly became a center of Coptic Orthodox life in the Westside. Its impact extended beyond Santa Monica. It served Los Angeles and surrounding areas. The congregation expanded. It grew from 60 families to approximately 300. This growth reflects the church’s dedication to its members. It also shows the power of faith and community. In 1995 a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Zeitun was consecrated. This addition provided an even more intimate space for prayer and reflection.
