“Served the borough of Brooklyn since 1927” resonates deeply with Saint Paul Community Baptist Church’s legacy. This church has a rich history. It has a strong preaching component to edify the lives of its congregants.
Saint Paul Community Baptist Church has a pastoral lineage of seven. The church’s ministry focuses on service to the community. Saint Paul Community has been at the forefront of neighborhood development. It has also supported economic development in East New York and beyond. This is due in part to their passion for social justice. The church uses the ‘each one, teach one’ methodology.
St. Paul’s longest-serving Senior Pastor was the Rev. J.H. Billups. He served from 1937 to 1966. He encouraged active participation from all members. He fostered a spirit of togetherness within the church. Various church organizations were established under his tenure. These included the Gospel Chorus and the Social Work Department.
Reverend Billups was very active in the community. He was a part of the NAACP. He was also part of the Interracial Committee. He was involved with the YMCA, YWCA, and the Montclair Minister’s Conference. Under his leadership, groundwork was laid for a new church building. This was completed in 1963. It was located at 119 Elm Street in Montclair.
The church offers Wednesdays in the Word. Join them every Wednesday for Morning Prayer Call at 7:00 AM. There is also Noon Day Service at 12:00 PM. Let’s come together to study and reflect on God’s Word!
