The national Holiness movement accepted the name Church of God in Christ in 1906. C.H. Mason chose the name. In 1907 a discussion about the baptism of the Holy Spirit caused a split.

Those who held to speaking in tongues parted ways. C.P. Jones retained the holiness movement doctrine. Bishop C.H. Mason incorporated the name COGIC.

The Holiness division began using Church of Christ Holiness. In 1920 it was chartered in Mississippi. It became the Church of Christ Holiness U.S.A..

The church’s theology is trinitarian with a Holiness emphasis. They practice water baptism by immersion. They also observe the Lord’s Supper as a memorial. Foot washing is practiced. Speaking in tongues is not rejected. The Holy Spirit is an indispensable gift.

The Church of Christ Holiness U.S.A. is episcopal. A Senior Bishop serves as the highest official. The church is divided into eight dioceses in the United States.

The annual National Convention takes place in July. In 2020 the church celebrated its 124th convention in Dallas Texas.
