Saint Paul Baptist Church

In 1935, a simple prayer band began meeting in homes in Acres Homes, Houston. This humble beginning marked the birth of Saint Paul Baptist Church. The church quickly outgrew its initial meeting places. In 1936, under the leadership of their newly elected pastor, Reverend Paul Jackson, they purchased land at 2516 Paul Quinn Street. This is the very spot where Saint Paul Baptist Church stands today. Imagine the scene: a simple tent erected on dirt floors, with no utilities. Yet, this was where the community gathered to worship. A small, 14×20-foot building soon replaced the tent, gradually expanding over the years. Saint Paul Baptist Church has witnessed a fascinating evolution. From those early days, it has grown into a beacon of faith and community. The church has seen several pastors guide its congregation. Reverend I.V. Hillard briefly served in the 1970s, followed by the influential Reverend James Roy Jackson. He led the construction of a new church building, completed in 1990. Sadly, both Reverend Jackson and his two successors passed away within a few years of each other. In 2000, Reverend Archie Thompson became the sixth pastor of Saint Paul Baptist Church. He brought a renewed vision and commitment to biblical teachings. Saint Paul Baptist Church has been more than just a place of worship. It has been a vital part of the Acres Homes community for over 85 years. The church continues to serve, offering Sunday worship, prayer and Bible study groups, and various ministries. It has a rich history of outreach, including a food pantry and community support programs. The church’s motto, “Come and See, Stay and Grow, Go Out & Serve,” encapsulates its mission.
