The Augustinian priests, sensing the need for a spiritual home for these newcomers, decided to build a new church. They found an old Protestant church building and transformed it into a place of worship for their Italian parishioners. The original building couldn’t accommodate the growing community, so it was torn down and replaced by the grand structure we see today. The church is a beautiful example of Neoclassical architecture, with its soaring columns, intricate details, and a commanding presence that speaks volumes about the devotion of those who built it. The interior, however, is where the true magic lies. It’s a sanctuary of breathtaking beauty, adorned with intricate stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Saint Nicholas.
