In 1959, the first masses for St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Poway were held, marking the beginning of a rich history. We stand now before the current church, a testament to the community’s resilience. St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Poway wasn’t always here. The original church building, completed in 1971, tragically burned down in 1990. A two-alarm fire, possibly starting in the sanctuary, quickly consumed the structure. Flames shot through the skylight above the altar. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the building was gutted, including the attached kindergarten classroom. A steel cross, salvaged from the fire’s wreckage, now stands at the church entrance, a poignant reminder of the loss and the community’s enduring faith. The church was rebuilt, and today, St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Poway continues to serve a vibrant community. It offers a full schedule of masses and other services. Daily masses are held at 7:30 am and 9:00 am Monday through Friday. Saturday masses are at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. Sunday offers five mass times: 7:15 am, 9:00 am, 10:45 am, 12:30 pm, and 5:30 pm. Confessions are available Saturdays from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Adoration takes place Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Weekday devotions include Rosary on Monday through Friday at 8:30 am and Perpetual Help Novena on Tuesdays at 8:00 am. St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Poway remains a vital part of Poway’s spiritual landscape.
