Saint Justin Martyr Catholic Community Church

Tucked away on Ashford Point Drive, Saint Justin Martyr Catholic Community Church has blossomed from humble beginnings. In 1982, a small group of around 200 families sought a spiritual home on Houston’s expanding west side. They began their journey by holding mass in borrowed space, carrying their own lawn chairs to services at the neighboring St. Kevork Armenian Church. Can you imagine? Saint Justin Martyr Catholic Community Church continued to grow, reflecting the diverse tapestry of Houston itself. By 1985, the congregation had outgrown its temporary home. They celebrated the dedication of their new church building with a procession that began at St. Kevork, symbolically bridging their past and future. The Gospel reading marked their arrival at their permanent home, Saint Justin Martyr Catholic Community Church. The church quickly became a cornerstone of the community. It prioritized family, recognizing the unique value of each member. In 1991, the first Christian Formation Board at Saint Justin Martyr was established. This board aimed to nurture the spiritual growth of the church’s younger members, shaping youth ministry and religious education programs. The dedication of the Christian Formation Center in 1996 solidified their commitment. Saint Justin Martyr also caters to the diverse needs of its parishioners. Signed masses are offered for the hearing impaired, and Vietnamese services provide a spiritual home for Houston’s Vietnamese community. Throughout the week, a variety of devotions and prayer groups strengthen the bonds of faith. From the Tuesday novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, to the Thursday Charismatic Prayer Group, and the Saturday Vietnamese Prayer Group, there’s a place for everyone at Saint Justin Martyr. Even monthly anointings of the sick, Saturday morning Benediction, and the St. Joseph Altar celebrated near March 19th provide comfort and spiritual sustenance. The spirit of Saint Justin Martyr Catholic Community Church is perhaps best captured in their parish song, “Find Us Faithful”. This anthem echoes their commitment to passing their faith on to future generations, a legacy of belief in the heart of Houston.
