They also celebrated Mass at the Incarnation of Our Lord Church. Their dream of a dedicated place of worship was a long-held one. It stemmed from their deep yearning to practice their faith freely. It was in 1982 that prayer groups began in major US cities. This was thanks to the Most Rev. Benedict Mar Gregorios. He established these groups during a visit to the United States and Canada.
Over the years the Philadelphia Malankara Catholic community grew. They saw several priests minister to their needs. The community flourished. They even formed a youth movement and religious instruction classes. In 1988 Archbishop Anthony Cardinal J. Bevilaqua officially recognized them as a mission.
