Why would relics of a saint travel the globe? In September 2009, a casket containing the relics of St. John Bosco embarked on a remarkable journey. This was no ordinary trip. It was a pilgrimage, a testament to the enduring legacy of the “Father and Teacher of Youth.” Saint John Bosco Catholic Church here in Harvey, Louisiana, was one of the stops on this incredible journey. Imagine the excitement when the relics arrived. The casket, containing bones and tissues from the saint’s right hand and arm, was encased in a lifelike wax replica of St. John Bosco himself. This was then displayed in a grand glass box mounted on a specially designed cart. The relics’ journey, a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Salesians of Don Bosco, aimed to bring the spirit of the saint to communities across the world. St. John Bosco, born in 1815, dedicated his life to serving underprivileged youth. He established oratories, schools, and workshops, offering education and support to those who needed it most. The arrival of his relics served as a poignant reminder of his tireless work and encouraged people to continue his mission of service and compassion.
