Saint Anne School

In 1930, the Basilian fathers, with a vision to “Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge,” opened the doors of Saint Anne Catholic School. Under the guidance of five sisters of Divine Providence from Our Lady of the Lake Convent, the school welcomed its first students. Saint Anne is a beacon of education, nestled on the northwest corner of Shepherd and Westheimer, on the edge of River Oaks. The school shares the land with the greater Saint Anne Catholic Community. Today, prekindergarten through eighth grade students from all across Houston call Saint Anne their school. This institution, recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and faith-based values, has become a cornerstone in the Houston community. In fact, in 2006, Saint Anne received the prestigious Blue Ribbon award from the US Department of Education. The school’s commitment to faith is evident, with students attending Mass once per week and receiving daily religion instruction from an Archdiocesan certified Religion teacher.
Saint Anne boasts an impressive array of facilities, offering a playground housed in an inner courtyard. A large field with baseball diamonds stretches just north of the school, providing space for much-needed physical activity. The school’s academic program is designed to nurture each student’s intellectual growth. Students in Pre-K 3 through Kindergarten receive daily instruction in Religion, Math, and Language Arts and weekly instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, Library, and Computer. First and second grade students spend the majority of their day with their classroom teacher and their teacher’s aide, studying Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. They also attend classes in Spanish, Art, Music, Computer, and Physical Education and visit the library weekly. Third through fifth grade students continue with these courses, but prepare for a middle school schedule by splitting their day between two classrooms. In sixth through eighth grade, students take courses in English, Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, Religion, and Spanish four to five times per week. They also take Physical Education and fine arts electives. In 7th and 8th grade, students can explore different electives of their choice, such as fine art, computer, or journalism, each quarter. Saint Anne extends beyond academics. A resource teacher provides support to students requiring additional learning assistance. Students begin studying Spanish in 1st grade. In grades 6-8, students take Spanish four to five times a week. Students choose among various computer electives in grades 6-8. The school has a computer lab, and each classroom features a SMART Board. Additionally, students in 3rd through 8th grade have access to mobile laptop and iPad carts.
Saint Anne School is more than just a place of learning. It is a vibrant community where students can discover their talents and grow into responsible members of society. The school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities that foster teamwork, leadership, and creativity. Students can participate in Choir, Prep Bowl, Shamrock Girls Math & Science Club, Anti-Bullying Committee, Forensics Team, Rosary Club, and Altar Services. They can also join intramural sports teams in various disciplines, such as soccer, volleyball, baseball, basketball, cross country, softball, track, and cheer. It is no wonder that Saint Anne School thrives, serving as a testament to the Basilian fathers’ enduring vision.
