A wave of peace washes over you as you stand before Saint Andrews by the Sea Church. This isn’t just any church. It’s a place steeped in history a beacon of faith in the heart of San Diego.

Saint Andrews by the Sea Church first opened its doors to worshippers in 1933. The Diocese of San Diego was then still part of the Diocese of Los Angeles. The very first baptism here took place even earlier in 1928. Reverend Horace Wood served as the vicar for that momentous occasion.

For many years Saint Andrews by the Sea Church was served by part-time vicars and missionary priests. That changed in 1946 when Reverend J Stanley Parke became its first full-time rector. The church’s congregation quickly outgrew its original home in Mission Beach. In 1949 the current site was purchased for just $5000.

Tragedy struck in 1961 when a fire destroyed the church building. The congregation showed their unwavering faith rebuilding their beloved Saint Andrews by the Sea Church in 1963. The rebuilt church stands today a testament to the enduring spirit of its members. It has served as a spiritual home for countless individuals over the decades.

Today Saint Andrews by the Sea Church welcomes people from all walks of life. It is described as a welcoming relaxed and accepting community. It’s a place where you’ll find people embracing the uniqueness of each individual. The church strives to be an inclusive and loving space affirming all people regardless of background. Their services combine traditional hymns with modern songs. Communion is an important part of their worship. After services members often share food and fellowship.

Saint Andrews by the Sea Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant hub for community engagement. It offers volunteer opportunities and various ministries.
