“Veritas” or “Truth” is the motto. It encapsulates the spirit of Sacred Heart High School. Founded in 1907 by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose, Sacred Heart High School stands as one of the first girls’ high schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Let’s step back in time. Imagine Los Angeles in the early 20th century. The Dominican Sisters recognized a need for quality education for young women. Mother Pia Backes founded Sacred Heart Academy. It was to meet this critical need.

Initially, the De La Salle Brothers taught the younger boys. This arrangement lasted until 1925. Cathedral High School opened its doors.

In 1949, Sacred Heart Academy underwent a transformation. It officially became Sacred Heart High School. The school was placed under the jurisdiction of the Sacred Heart Parish. Another significant change occurred in 1979. Sacred Heart transitioned into an Archdiocesan school.

Sacred Heart High School is located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The school’s address is 2111 North Griffin Avenue. It’s a place where young women pursue academic excellence and personal growth.

The school’s athletic teams are known as the Comets. Their colors are red and white. They compete in the CIF Southern Section Horizon League. The rival school is San Gabriel Mission.

Today, Sacred Heart High School continues its mission. The principal is Raymond Saborio. Lisa Cagigas serves as the Dean. Wendy Navarro is the Director of Admissions.

Sacred Heart High School remains accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The dedicated staff includes Luz Vivas as Vice Principal. Margarita Mendoza is the Dean of Curriculum. Dr. Grant Kinman is the Dean of Academics. Lucia Saborio is the STEM Director. Ernesto Navarrete guides college-bound students. Jennifer Rodriguez directs student activities. Greg Nakashima heads the Leadership Institute. Andrew Gatti oversees athletics. Abigail Peñaran focuses on student wellness. Brendan Strickland serves as the Campus Minister. Lauren Mercado manages technology. Naomi Cornejo directs the STEP program.
