A phoenix from ashes. That’s the story of Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus. This magnificent church, located at 2000 Rue Alexandre-DeSève, has a history as dramatic as its architecture. Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus wasn’t always the grand structure you see today. A devastating fire nearly destroyed it in 1922. But from the ashes, it rose again. Rebuilt within the original walls. Architect Joseph Venne meticulously followed the initial plans. Sadly, one element was lost: the spire of its bell tower. The original foundation, designed by Adolphe Lévêque, dates back to 1876. The rebuilding incorporated reinforced concrete. This gave the resurrected church strength and resilience. Inside, a feast for the eyes awaits. The interior decoration is a masterpiece of bas-reliefs. These intricate designs were molded in the workshops of Carli and Petrucci. Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus is more than just a building. It’s a testament to the enduring power of faith. It’s a vibrant part of the Montreal community. Masses are held regularly throughout the week. You can join the community for mass on Sunday at 10:30 am. Weekday masses are held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 2:30 pm. All masses are conducted in French. For those seeking a moment of quiet reflection, adoration and confession are available on Fridays at 1:30 pm. Sacré-Cœur-de-Jésus stands as a symbol of hope. A reminder that even from destruction, beauty can emerge.
