What secrets does an island hold when its very name whispers of rabbits? Sa Conillera, off the coast of Ibiza, is known as “Rabbit Island”. But don’t let the cuddly name fool you. This cave is still known as sa Casa d’Annibal. Centuries later, Sa Conillera became a pirate’s haunt. Excavations unearthed skeletons from the 16th century, bearing the marks of violence and torture, likely the remains of pirates executed on the island. So, while rabbits might lend their name to Sa Conillera, the island’s true story is one of shipwrecks, endemic species, and whispers of ancient generals and pirate executions. It’s a place where legend and history intertwine, creating an allure that goes far beyond its humble name.
