The roar of the crowd still echoes in my ears. I’m standing before Russ Chandler Stadium a place steeped in history and the thunder of countless baseball games.

Russ Chandler Stadium isn’t just a ballpark. It’s a living testament to Georgia Tech’s baseball legacy. Its story begins in 1930. The original Rose Bowl Field was built thanks to the team’s 1929 Rose Bowl victory. Can you imagine the pride?

The stadium wasn’t always the modern facility we see today. Initially it only had bleacher seats. Then in 1985 A. Russell Chandler III fueled a major upgrade. Fans affectionately nicknamed it “The Rusty C” because of its abundant aluminum. This upgrade was in time for Tech’s centennial year.

The stadium’s transformation wasn’t over. In 2002 a complete rebuild took place. The new stadium incorporated more brick. Less aluminum. But the nickname “The Rusty C” stuck. The current stadium stands in the heart of Atlanta’s Midtown. It offers incredible views of the city skyline.

A special moment occurred on April 9 2008. Russ Chandler Stadium reached record attendance. 4609 fans packed the stands to watch the Yellow Jackets versus the Georgia Bulldogs. This attendance surpassed previous records for both postseason and regular-season games.

Further renovations happened in 2020. A new Champions Hall was added. Premium seating areas were upgraded. This reduced the stadium’s capacity. The venue was also renamed Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Russ Chandler Stadium is more than just a field. It’s a symbol of Georgia Tech baseball’s passion. It’s a place where memories are made and legends are born. The stadium has been the home of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets since 1930. The legacy continues.
