In 1930s Lille, Rue du Chaufour saw a flourish of Art Deco architecture. Number 4, Rue du Chaufour, arose around 1931. This residential building, commissioned by Mademoiselle Théodore, stands as a testament to the era’s distinctive style. Just a few years later, in 1934, numbers 5-7, Rue du Chaufour, joined the streetscape. This larger residential building, reaching a height of approximately 16 meters, was commissioned by Monsieur Donze. These buildings, though different in scale, share the elegant geometric forms and decorative motifs characteristic of Art Deco. They offer a glimpse into the architectural trends of Lille during the interwar period. Rue du Chaufour thus became a quiet showcase of this elegant architectural style. The Art Deco buildings on Rue du Chaufour whisper stories of Lille’s past. They stand as reminders of a time of rebuilding and renewal after the First World War.
