From a president of the Court of Cassation to a street name. Rue Alfred Giron. This Brussels street holds a piece of Ixelles history. It’s named after a prominent jurist, Alfred Giron. He lived from 1832 to 1910. Rue Alfred Giron came to be as part of a larger plan. This plan involved creating two new streets. These streets connected Avenue Auguste Rodin and what is now Rue des Liégeois. The royal decree approving this plan came in 1913. While some buildings on Rue Alfred Giron popped up that same year, most date back to the 1920s. Between 1922 and 1928, a variety of bourgeois houses appeared. These houses show diverse, sometimes anachronistic styles. For example, number 5 boasts a late neoclassical design from 1922. Number 13 shows off a late eclectic style from 1923. Number 3 reflects a traditionalist approach by architect Henri Derée in 1928. Even Art Deco made its mark, as seen in number 34 from 1925. Rue Alfred Giron showcases not just architectural variety, but also the legacy of a legal mind who shaped Belgian law.
