Born in Cordoba Argentina on March 27 1941 Ruben Américo Martí dedicated his life to public service. This bust stands as a testament to his legacy. A dentist by profession Martí’s true calling was politics. He joined the Radical Civic Union UCR at a young age. He quickly rose through the ranks.

Martí’s political career spanned decades. He served as a provincial deputy from 1983 to 1987. Then he became Minister of Social Affairs from 1987 to 1991. His most significant achievement however was his time as mayor of Cordoba. He was elected twice serving from 1991 to 1999. During his two terms he focused on environmental issues. He planted thousands of trees. He created new parks like the Parks of Life and Nations. He was also a strong proponent of decentralizing municipal administration. He established Community Participation Centers CPCs to improve local governance.

Beyond his mayoral duties Martí also served as a national senator from 2001 to 2003. Even later in life he continued his public service. He held the position of Director of the Municipal Planning Institute until his death in 2013 at age 72. His contributions extended beyond Cordoba. He even served as the Executive Secretary of Mercociudades a network of Latin American cities.
