Founded in 1818, the Royal Botanic Gardens are one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. The gardens span over 60 acres, showcasing a stunning collection of flora from every continent. As we stroll through this verdant paradise, notice the incredible diversity of trees. There are approximately 700 trees here, with about 13% native to Trinidad and Tobago. Keep an eye out for colorful parrots and playful monkeys. The Royal Botanic Gardens are more than just a visual feast. They also hold a somber piece of history. Within the gardens lies a small burial ground. This is the final resting place for several former Governors of Trinidad. Their tombs serve as a reminder of the island’s colonial past.
